Kyiv/Moscow – The head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announced on Tuesday (16 May) the death of a US volunteer fighter who fought alongside Kyiv in eastern Ukraine. In a video circulated by Russian military bloggers, Prigozhin presented the body of a soldier in the midst of rubble, who is said to be a US citizen.
In the short video, Prigozhin can be seen walking with his men at night while muffled explosions can be heard. When and where the pictures were taken remains unclear. Then Prigozhin can be seen next to a soldier with a naked torso and a wound in the abdomen. In a solemn and ironic tone, he says: "He came to our meeting. citizens of the United States of America." In addition, he points to allegedly personal documents of the soldier, without mentioning his name.

"We will send him back to the United States. We will put him in a coffin (with) the American flag. With respect, because he did not die in grandfather's bed, but in the war," said the businessman, whose paramilitary Wagner group is fighting on the front line for Russia in the embattled city of Bakhmut.
Prigozhin's information could not initially be independently verified.
Ukraine war: Paradoxical frontline situation around Bakhmut
In the battles for the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, a paradoxical frontline situation has developed. Ukraine-News: London and The Hague want "coalition" for fighter jet delivery
Britain and the Netherlands want to forge an "international coalition" to supply Ukraine with fighter jets. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte agreed on the sidelines of the Council of Europe summit in Iceland, a British government spokesman said on Tuesday evening.
