Enthusiasm at Bares für Rares: A saleswoman brought an old jardinière with her and didn't know what the value of the piece was. Then it came to the bidding.

Cologne \u1 Bares für Rares has been running continuously on German television for almost ten years and comprises over 600,<> episodes. The experts and dealers can rarely be surprised with special features. In last Thursday's episode, the time had come again.

Cash for Rares: 150 euros become 5,800 euros

Saleswoman Christine Gloning wanted to sell a jardinière, an old family heirloom, and wanted a modest 150 euros for it. However, she had no idea that the object from 300 was worth ten times as much due to the price of silver alone. According to expert Dr. Heide Rezepa-Zabel, this amounted to 1898,1 euros - the total expertise even amounted to 710,4 to 800,5 euros.

"It doesn't take my breath away," says Gloning with tears in his eyes. The jardinière, an object frequently used as a flower container in the 19th century, is said to represent "boyish figurines" that "accompany Venus." They accompany and comment on love," interpreted Rezepa-Zabel, who stated that she had never seen such a piece in her life. The enthusiasm for the antique object was also palpable in the sales room: Waldi Lehnertz and Wolfgang Pauritsch laid claim to the piece with their zodiac sign Aquarius.

The latter left the four other dealers behind after a small bidding with a prize of 3,000 euros, but then had to get involved in a "poker game" with the seller. "That's good for them and maybe even better for me," Pauritsch concluded the tough negotiation. Thus, the Jardinière exceeded the original desired price by more than 26 times. That's a lot of money, but it's surpassed by an incredible flea market find that recently changed hands for 30,000 euros. Sources used:ZDF/Bares für Rares Episode from 13.04.2023
