Debate between David Bitan and Moshe Gafni at the Economy Committee, April 30, 2023 (Knesset channel)
The ministers and Knesset members of the Agudat Yisrael faction, who threatened yesterday to vote against the budget if they did not comply with their demand to add NIS 600 million to the budget of the rabbis, yeshivas and exemption institutions, sent a joint letter to Degel HaTorah Chairman MK Moshe Gafni on Thursday, demanding that he toe the line regarding their demand and make a joint party decision that party members would not vote in favor of the budget in such a case.
In the letter, they wrote, among other things, that "this is a clear and painful violation of the coalition agreement, an agreement that is supposed to give voters what we promised them on election night. Therefore, our demand and our firm request is that all of us faction of Torah Judaism will not be given such a budget. Until the expected and necessary amendment of all the clauses, we will have to vote against the budget." The letter was signed by Ministers Yitzhak Goodknopf and Meir Frosh, Deputy Minister Yaakov Tessler, and Knesset Members Israel Eichler and Moshe Shimon Roth.
