Highlights: Néstor Grindetti will be the pre-candidate for governor of Patricia Bullrich in the province of Buenos Aires. Grindetti returned this week to the municipality of Lanús, after a month of leave to assume as head of Independiente after the resignation of Fabián Doman. Cristian Ritondo and Javier Iguacel also fell by the wayside. Bullrich hurried the definition, after the PRO summit in which main referents of the party confirmed that there will be competition for the category of governor.

The former head of the PRO leaned towards the mayor of Lanús over Cristian Ritondo, Joaquín de la Torre and Javier Iguacel.

Néstor Grindetti will be the pre-candidate for governor of Patricia Bullrich in the province of Buenos Aires. The former Minister of Security decided to announce it after a meeting with the mayor of Lanús and with Joaquín de la Torre, another of the candidates who were registered to dispute the succession of Axel Kicillof. Cristian Ritondo and Javier Iguacel also fell by the wayside.

Bullrich hurried the definition, after the PRO summit in which the main referents of the party confirmed that there will be competition for the category of governor in the main district of the country. Grindetti returned this week to the municipality of Lanús, after a month of leave to assume as head of Independiente after the resignation of Fabián Doman.

"It's not an easy decision," Bullrich said in the preview before his collaborators. Finally he opted for Grindetti, in charge of a municipality of the Third Electoral Section, a key territory and in general elusive for the PRO, and a leader with close relationship with Mauricio Macri, since he worked in Socma. He will compete against Diego Santilli, the candidate of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.

"He has management experience and renewed in 2019, when many fell," they assessed close to Bullrich. The decision remained open until the last moment and throughout the day there had been conflicting versions about who would be elected to that candidacy.

"He ended up gravitating his belonging to space. Néstor is the PRO and very linked to Mauricio, "they evaluated in the sector of De la Torre, one of those who until late afternoon maintained expectations. On Bullrich's side, they dismissed that Macri's gaze was decisive: "I had no objections or preferences for any."

Bullrich had been delaying the definition, mainly for two reasons. On the one hand there was the possibility that Ritondo would be their candidate, but the head of the PRO bloc of deputies was aligned with the presidential aspirations of María Eugenia Vidal.

Once the former Buenos Aires governor gave up the national candidacy, two weeks ago, the talks accelerated although Bullrich had some expectation that Vidal would also join her project to reach the Casa Rosada. With strong ties to Rodriguez Larreta for years, Vidal said he would remain "neutral" in the fight for the presidency.

"Cristian joined late and Maria Eugenia's ambiguous position did not help him. We still want him to be part of our team, "said one of the references of the former head of the PRO involved in the negotiations, and to reflect the ambivalence of Vidal recalled the two photos after lowering his candidacy: one in a bar with Bullrich and the next day at a breakfast at the house of Rodríguez Larreta.

In turn, regarding the delay in the definition of Bullrich, at one point PRO mayors and allied leaders promoted an agreement to unify a party candidate who could carry the two ballots for president, that of Bullrich and Rodríguez Larreta. It was even the position of Santilli, the best positioned in the polls since his triumph in 2021.

The former Minister of Security did not close accepting the former Buenos Aires deputy chief as the only candidate, due to his alignment with the head of government and distrust of oversight in the country's main district. Even so, there were talks between both sectors, until Rodríguez Larreta ratified that he will not "share" Santilli and at Monday's summit it was confirmed that there will be competition.

From that announcement the definition was precipitated, and Bullrich also resolved that in principle he will prepare to assemble lists and contest in the 135 districts of the province. Except for specific cases such as Guillermo Montenegro in General Pueyrredón and Soledad Martínez in Vicente López, from both sectors each municipality dot to structure the scheme of the so-called Latin I, that is, without sharing ballots in any of the categories. Even so, both for the mayors and even for the governor, new negotiations are not ruled out. There is more than a month left for the closing of lists.
