From Friday morning, strikes will take place in several Bavarian cities. Nuremberg, Munich, Augsburg and Regensburg, among others, are affected.

Munich – After the 50-hour strike of Deutsche Bahn could still be averted, the collective bargaining workers in numerous Bavarian cities will strike from early Friday morning. The following companies will stop work early Friday morning: SWM and MVG Munich, Stadtwerk Mobilität Regensburg, Verkehrsbetrieb Bayreuth, Verkehrs GmbH Augsburg, Verkehrsbetriebe Landshut, Schweinfurt, STVP Bamberg, Nuremberg, and infra Fürth.

Bavaria-wide public transport strike: Strong effects in Augsburg and Munich

The trade union ver.di had called for a warning strike on Wednesday. It is supposed to last the whole day, only in Augsburg the employees stop work between 6:00 a.m. and 14:00 p.m. However, it will probably take even longer for public transport to run smoothly again.

In Munich, public transport will largely come to a standstill on Friday: only about half of the vehicles will be in use on the bus lines, and trams and subways will hardly run. However, the municipal utilities want to try – depending on staff availability – to run the tram lines as regularly as possible. "Here, the priority is initially on the most demanded line 20," said an MVG spokesman.

"NightLiner" as a replacement service – The strike day in Nuremberg

In Nuremberg, too, public transport users must expect massive restrictions on the bridge day: All tram, subway and regular bus lines are affected by the strike. In order not to leave travelers completely seated, however, there is a "timetable offer with buses based on the NightLiner network," according to Nuremberg.

Accordingly, the buses in the Franconian metropolis run every 20 minutes from the start of operations until around 30 p.m., and every 20 minutes from around 24 p.m. until the end of operations around 00.60 p.m. However, due to the warning strike, regular NightLiner traffic will be cancelled during the night from Friday to Saturday.

Warning strike in Regensburg: Only regional bus services not affected

In Regensburg, all trips on the bus lines of the Stadtwerk.Mobilität are cancelled all day. The free Dult bus is also affected. Meanwhile, a special regulation applies to line 5: "All journeys into the city with a start within the city area and out of town with a destination sign "Schwabelweis" will not be carried out," according to the Regensburg Transport Association.

It goes on to say: "All other trips from the district as well as to the district of Regensburg will be carried out. This means that line 5 will be served every 20 minutes during rush hour." Regensburg's regional bus service, on the other hand, is not affected by the strike.

Five rounds of negotiations failed - strikes as a "logical consequence"

ver.di is currently negotiating the collective agreement for local transport in Bavaria (TV-N). According to ver.di, despite five rounds of negotiations, it has not yet been possible to reach a negotiated result with the employers. "The logical consequence is these warning strikes," said Sinan Öztürk, chief negotiator and deputy regional director of ver.di Bayern.

The 50-hour warning strike at Deutsche Bahn announced at the beginning of the week was just averted. Nevertheless, there were severe restrictions and train cancellations for travelers.
