The Dachau SPD is repositioning itself. Sören Schneider is leaving Dachau, Brigitte Hinterscheid will replace him on the city council.
Dachau – There are said to have been times when the shreds and party books flew at the annual general meetings of the Dachau SPD. This year it was very different. It was hugged, hugged and hearted that it was a joy. There were even a few tears.
The reason: Sören Schneider, a long-time member of the local association, city councillor and for the past two years also local chairman of the comrades, is quitting. He is moving with his family "to beautiful Lower Saxony," as he reported. He did not say when the move will take place, the house bought there will be completely renovated and ready for occupancy and he will then finally leave Dachau. But one thing is certain: "It's good what happened here in Dachau. But it's just as good what's coming now for my family and me."
Lord Mayor Florian Hartmann bid farewell to his friend and party colleague with warm words. Schneider is an "insane team player", a man with "great social, emotional and cognitive intelligence", a "very good listener" and a "patient person".

"Almost at the same time," said the mayor, they joined the SPD. He himself on March 1, 2007, Schneider only a month earlier, on February 1. Together, they had "reactivated" the Jusos in the district of Dachau and celebrated "great successes" in the past local elections.
According to Hartmann, the local association will miss Schneider, for whom the topics of "freedom, justice and solidarity" have always been so important. The only hope left for the people of Dachau now is that he will pass on this "SPD imprint" to his two children as well as his new homeland. According to Hartmann, "every local association can be happy" about Sören Schneider!
As a farewell, the comrades presented their outgoing chairman with a special gift, a Dachau gift: Schneider received an apple tree, or seeds of the so-called Corbinian's apple. To explain: Korbinian Aigner, known as the apple priest, was a Catholic clergyman and, from the 1930s, an avowed opponent of the National Socialists. From 1941 to 1945 he was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp and had to perform forced labor, mainly in agriculture. Nevertheless, during these years Aigner managed to plant apple trees between two barracks and even breed new varieties. The KZ-3 variety survived the Nazi regime – it still exists today as a Corbinian's apple.
The assembly unanimously appointed Dennis Behrendt as Schneider's successor. The city councillor and full-time BRK managing director promised to anchor the local association "in the middle of society", to be "close to the people" and to "address issues that are really important to the people".
Behrendt's deputies are Anke Drexler and Stefan Hefele. Drexler, who leads the SPD parliamentary group in the city council, was also a deputy in previous years. She would have liked to give a farewell speech to Sören Schneider, but tears of emotion kept getting in the way. "I'm just such a crybaby," she confessed. Stefan Hefele was also a member of the local board as a previous assessor.

Bernd Hubensack will continue to be responsible for cash management. He has held this office in Dachau for 20 years and was also treasurer of the local SPD association in his old home town of Osterode – "where Sören is now moving". In this respect, he found, "the circle closes".
Brigitte Hinterscheid was confirmed in her office as secretary; it is also to take over Schneider's city council seat after Schneider's move. The assembly appointed Anthony Vilano and Richard Bartl as auditors. The assessors are Daniela Flach, Katja Caspari, Uwe Istenes, Sophie Kyriakidou, Ramon Rümler, Sabina Endler-Navratil, Luca Zimmermann and Zgim Alija.
After more than 20 years, however, Silvia Neumeier is no longer on the board. According to Sören Schneider, the long-time functionary and city councillor has always been a "steadfast discussant. Anyone who wanted to get past it had to fight." City councillor Andreas Gahr is also relinquishing his association work after ten years on the local board.
In the end, the new assessor Zgim Alija, 20 years young and a law student in his fourth semester, ensured that the otherwise deeply moved atmosphere in the small hall of the ASV restaurant relaxed noticeably. His name, he explained nonchalantly, was pronounced like the English "Jim". Through his friend – and SPD city councillor – Berkay Kengeroglu, he ended up with the comrades, followed by his accession two and a half years ago. And, what should he say: "Since then, it's only been uphill! Olaf Scholz is chancellor!"
