Penzberg - The next "Penzberg Consultation" at the hospital is coming up. This time it's about nerves and chronic pain - and what surgery can do.
They have their practice in Murnau and have also been working at the Penzberg Clinic since 2006: The chief physicians of plastic and hand surgery, Dr. Gaby Fromberg and Dr. Eva-Maria Baur, are the next speakers at the "Penzberg Consultation". On Wednesday (May 24), they will talk about "What's getting on your nerves?" Help with chronic pain through surgical nerve relief".
Free "consultation hours"
The "consultation hour" with Dr. Gaby Fromberg and Dr. Eva-Maria Baur will take place on Wednesday, May 24. It starts at 19 p.m. at the Penzberg Clinic (event room). Admission is free.
Nerve relief can help with several symptoms. The "classic case", according to Fromberg, is carpal tunnel syndrome: In this case, the important nerve on the wrist is pinched and causes pain. "You lose sensitivity and strength," says the surgeon. However, patients also suffer from a tennis or golf elbow, pinched nerves on their feet, have bruised nerves after accidents, for example on the ankle or knee, and the iliac crest can also be affected.
Operational options
The two experts offer several surgical options in Penzberg. Depending on the findings – by local tests or after the measurement analysis of a neurologist – chronic pain is treated. Nerve cords can be switched off by removing a piece and nerves can be relieved or relocated. Advantage: "You can strain again right away," says Fromberg. "You don't have to put anyone in a cast." Some operations are only possible with local anesthesia. Follow-up care is provided by the Murnau practice.
It's not just the elderly who are affected
The topic is becoming more and more important, says Dr. Susanne Rogers, Medical Director at the hospital. Such nerve pain would not only affect the elderly. The interventions help to create a "dignity of life," Rogers emphasizes. Fromberg and Baur perform around 500 outpatient procedures in the practice and clinic every year. Approximately 150 inpatient procedures affect peripheral nerves. According to Fromberg, several nerve surgeries are often performed at the same time during one operation appointment.
