What's next for the Schongau Hospital? In the Peitinger market town council, it has been quiet about the topic so far. But that will change next Tuesday.
Peiting – To find out how much the uncertain future of the Schongau hospital is preoccupying the people in the Schongau region, one only had to follow the numerous demonstrations in the Lech city in recent weeks. The topic has been dominating the headlines for months. Clearly on the side of those who have spoken out in favor of preserving the hospital is the Schongau city council. In the meantime, the committee has unanimously passed two resolutions to this effect, most recently expressing its concerns about health care with incendiary letters to the health ministers Lauterbach and Holetschek as well as to the district administrator.
Only a few kilometers away on the other side of the Lech, nothing has been heard of such advances so far. The Peitingen market town council kept a low profile on the subject of the future of hospitals. The municipality, in which about as many citizens live as in Schongau, would be just as affected by a possible closure as the neighboring city.

Independents call for a resolution on the preservation of the Schongau hospital
This is also the view of the Independent Peitingers. In a motion, the group is now calling for a resolution to be passed on the preservation of the Schongau hospital, which is to be addressed to the district council, supervisory board and district administrator. "It is an important sign that Peiting is also campaigning for the preservation of the Schongau hospital with maternity ward," emphasise the undersigned councillors Christian Lory, Alfred Jocher and Alex Zila.
The hospital in Schongau is "indispensable for our local health care, which was also clearly expressed by our population with 70 percent of the citizens' petition 'Pro Krankenhaus Schongau'." In addition to the preservation of many important jobs, the facility in the neighboring city is also elementary for the economic location in Peiting, according to the applicants. "We are thus calling for the expansion of the Schongau Hospital to Level 2, combined with all efforts to re-establish a maternity ward in Schongau in the long term."
Several Peitinger on the Supervisory Board of Krankenhaus GmbH
It will be interesting to see how the councillors of the CSU, SPD and Greens will position themselves in the municipal council meeting next Tuesday on the application of the Independents Peitinger. After all, Mayor Peter Ostenrieder (CSU) is known to be a member of the supervisory board of the hospital GmbH. With Heike Dietrich (Greens) and former mayor Michael Asam (SPD), the other two parliamentary groups mentioned also have representatives of their respective local associations in the body, which is heavily criticized by the public because of the current situation.
Ostenrieder did not want to comment on the application in advance. He knows, however, that the topic of the hospital is of interest to many, he will therefore take a clear position in the meeting, announced the head of the town hall in an interview with the SN. Even if it is not primarily a matter for the municipal council, but for the district council and the supervisory board, as Ostenrieder made clear.
