When a turntable ladder was needed, the fire brigades of the municipality of Oberding have always relied on support from the neighbourhood. Now it's time to buy one yourself, the vote of the local council was unanimous on Tuesday. Nevertheless, there were concerns.
Oberding – Due to the expansion of the industrial park in Schwaig (and the associated building heights), the turntable ladder is now simply needed, explained Mayor Bernhard Mücke (CSU). The vehicle has been announced since the demand planning in 2007.
Lorenz Huber, Oberdinger commander and district fire inspector, explained the situation to the councillors. He confirmed to Georg Stemmer (CSU) that they had recently been "in a gray area". Recently, Hallbergmoos also had to buy a turntable ladder.
"It is absolutely understandable that one is needed," said Christian Kaiser (CSU), professionally from the field. However, like Huber and Johannes Sandtner (CSU), he referred to the considerable personnel costs – the vehicle requires two people per operation, including training, further education and driving licences. That's why Huber admitted that he wasn't so keen on it. All five weirs would have to stand together, "Oberding alone can not do it". It is a "joint project. It can say 'Feuerwehr Gemeinde Oberding' on it and not 'Feuerwehr Oberding'."
Voices were also raised that one could continue to be helped, even if the help period of ten minutes was exceeded somewhat. Mücke put a stop to this: "You can't always ask the neighboring municipalities to make the surcharge when we expand our industrial park." Especially since you yourself are better positioned than others. The vehicle costs 800,000 euros and is expected in 2026, with a delivery time of about three years.
