Former Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Saturday evening criticized the promotion of the legal revolution. "You can't get to a situation where you agree on half democracy and give up on the other half." In an interview with Channel 13 News, almost two years after his term ended, Rivlin said that "without a clear separation of powers, we will find ourselves crippled in the democracy of which we are so proud."
Rivlin even implicitly criticized the dialogue surrounding the reform and the current president, Isaac Herzog. "If the president thinks there's a chance, that's his job. What should I visit? My assessment is that democracy cannot be compromised," Rivlin said. "Herzog must fulfill his powers. Whether he does good or not, he will judge every citizen."

The former president referred to the ouster of Defense Minister Yoav Galant by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that he asked himself why he did not take to the streets (to demonstrate)." Rivlin continued to attack the prime minister for failing to keep his promise of a rotation with Benny Gantz. "I got the impression that Netanyahu really meant to promise, and it doesn't always happen with politicians. I wasn't sure he would hold the rotation with Gantz, to say the least," he explained.
In his remarks, Rivlin referred to recordings of him that were exposed by Kan News, in which he claims that he warned Gantz at the signing of the unity government agreement with Netanyahu that "not a word will be upheld." In the recordings, Rivlin is heard saying, "I received from the prime minister, even though he didn't really want me to be president, a blank page with a signature. He said, 'Get me a partner, whatever he wants him to write, I commit everything to do.'"
According to Rivlin, he brought about a partnership between him and Gantz when Netanyahu signed a blank page in 2020 and pledged to fulfill every request of his government partner. The former president warned Gantz that Netanyahu would not keep any promises, saying: "Blessed is your initiative for bringing us a situation in which there is a government and we have no need to go to additional and unnecessary elections, but know that you will have no misunderstanding, whoever signed the entire blank page here and you filled it out - not a word will be fulfilled."
