San Lorenzo obtained this afternoon a clear 2-0 victory over Instituto de Córdoba, a result that brought it closer to the line of the pointer River Plate, and keeps it at the forefront of expectations, after playing the 17th date of the Professional Football League (LPF) tournament.
The team led by coach Rubén Insúa, who is two units behind the leader, won with two penalties converted by Andrés Vombergar, at 26 and 41 minutes of the second stage.
However, the afternoon in Bajo Flores was marked by a play starring the goalkeeper of Institute, Jorge Carranza, who recalled an old action of another goalkeeper, the former Vélez Gastón Sessa, in the Copa Libertadores 2007.
Like Sessa in that cup crossing against Boca in the Bombonera, Carranza picked up a simple center with his two hands but in the same movement of his jump he went down with his leg in a reckless way and hit a strong iron to the defender of San Lorenzo, Federico Gattoni, forcing referee Nicolás Ramírez to sanction penalty and take yellow card to the goalkeeper.
The referee's sanction was delayed for a few moments because there were doubts regarding Gattoni's position, which forced the intervention of the VAR. Meanwhile, the Ciclón player was lying on the ground and Carranza, 42, was swearing to Ramirez that he had committed no infraction.
The referee ended up going to see the play to the monitor but only to determine the degree of violence of Carranza's kick, which made him change his first decision to admonish him to rectify himself and get a red card.
Little did it matter to Vombergar, who took charge of the penalty and put the 2-0 that ended up defining the match, to unleash the party in the New Gasometer, which is excited to reach River.
