On May 17 – the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia – Das Erste showed the film "My Friend Volker". In it, "Tatort" star Axel Milberg plays the drag queen Vivian Bernaise.
Hamburg – "Tatort" star Axel Milberg (66) has surprised his fans with an appearance as a drag queen in the ARD feature film "My Girlfriend Volker". In the role of Vivian Bernaise, he was seen on May 17 with a purple wig, eye-catching make-up and glitter dress. The special thing about the date is that it is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.
Director thrilled by Milberg's acting performance
On the one hand, the film's director, Piotr J. Lewandowski (47), is happy for the signal effect of the film, which was realized with great support from the drag and LGBTQ* scene. On the other hand, in an interview with the news agency spot on news, he is enthusiastic about Milberg's acting skills.
"When the wig and costume completed the transformation, I was almost speechless. His transformation was really impressive," said Lewandowski. He justifies casting the role with a heterosexual actor with the desire to have the "best person for the role", "regardless of their sexual orientation". And that was achieved with the long-time "Tatort" commissioner: "It was really amazing to see how he immersed himself in the character of Vivian Bernaise and filled it with life," enthuses the director of Milberg.
Did you know? Helene Fischer had a guest role in "Tatort"
The "Tatort" is the longest-running and most popular crime series in the German-speaking world. There are not only exciting cases, but also a guest appearance of German celebrities from time to time. In 2015, for example, pop queen Helene Fischer was seen as a Ukrainian criminal in "The Great Pain".
That's what "My Friend Volker" is all about
"My Friend Volker" is about Vivian Bernaise (Milberg), who is the star of the "Donauwelle" in St. Pauli, a popular scene club. After a mafia attack, Vivian has to flee Hamburg and hide as Volker Weinreich in a small town as a straight man. She finds shelter in the family of primary school teacher Katja (Kim Riedle, 41) and takes care of Katja's son Lukas (Bruno Thiel).
