Records of the week

• In Rennes, a reclusive teenager who weighs only 27 kilos

Suspected of ill-treatment of her 14-year-old son, a mother will be tried before the Rennes Criminal Court on October 5.

A report to the justice had been made by caregivers ten months ago, when the mother of the family had presented herself to the emergency room of the hospital of Rennes with her son, victim of a bad allergic reaction. The general state of health "very degraded" of the teenager, who weighed only "27 kilos" for 1.47 meters and did not have a vaccination record, had alerted health professionals.

For her part, the young man's mother denies any abuse. She acknowledges not having taken "the classical way" in her education and accuses the justice system of "criminalizing a mother who tries to do her best".

• Brigitte Macron's great-nephew attacked in Amiens

Three men "in complete dormancy, with chaotic careers" were placed in pre-trial detention pending trial: they are suspected of having beaten Jean-Baptiste Trogneux in front of his chocolate factory.

On Monday evening, at the time of Emmanuel Macron's interview on TF1, demonstrators gathered in the city center to protest against the pension reform. Some then went to the business of Brigitte Macron's great-nephew. The latter, who came out to put an end to the disturbance, was then attacked by several individuals.

"When we look at these three, we realize that we are dealing with everything except people inserted into society, in complete dormancy, with chaotic paths. With the exception of Adrien F., they have an IQ that barely exceeds sixty, "argued the lawyer of two of the suspects at the hearing.

• A fabricated gang rape

She told police she was assaulted and abducted by three men on her return from a jazz concert in Paris and then gang-raped. She had actually invented everything. A 27-year-old woman, with no criminal record, is now being prosecuted.

She said she was surrounded and threatened when she left the metro before explaining that she woke up in the early morning, half naked, in the Bois de Vincennes.

• The mysterious disappearance of a Brazilian woman in Paris

A wanted notice of Fernanda Santos de Oliveira, a 44-year-old Brazilian woman, posted in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. Guillaume Poingt / Le Figaro.

Where did Fernanda Santos de Oliveira go? The disappearance of this 44-year-old woman dates back to Monday, May 8, around 6 am. That day, this waitress in a restaurant leaves her maid's room in the opulent rue Cognacq-Jay (Paris 7th). Dressed in a white hooded jacket, jeans and a black backpack, this 1.64m woman gets on her scooter. No one has heard from anyone since.

The mother was seen in Melun (Seine-et-Marne) on May 8 and 9 in possession of a passport and a Navigo pass in her name. What was Fernanda doing so far from home? For now, the mystery remains.

Yesterday's fact

Article in Le Figaro of May 21, 2003. Le Figaro.

On May 20, 2003, it is a "return to the perpetuity box" for Patrick Henry. The murderer of little Philippe Bertrand, defended by Robert Badinter, had narrowly escaped the guillotine in 1977 during a historic trial at the assizes of the Aube. A decisive step towards the abolition of the death penalty. "You won't regret it," he promised once the judgment was handed down. The man, who had left college in fourth grade, had embarked on studies, dropping out of high school, maths and DUT in computer science. After 25 years in prison, he was released on parole. Initially a model of rehabilitation, the ex-prisoner was arrested in 2002 in Spain with ten kilos of cannabis and returned behind bars. Patrick Henry obtained a suspension of his sentence in September 2017 for health reasons and died of lung cancer three months later.

The reading council

Physical attacks are the daily life of a large number of French people. Judikael Hirel, a journalist for Le Figaro, is one of those people who is now placed in the "victim" box. On 13 November 2017, the journalist was brutally attacked in the corridors of the Paris metro. The reason? He simply intervened to stop the assault on a young woman. Reconstruction operations and a legal fight of several years later, the journalist returns to this aggression in a sharp and unfiltered book: Concorde Rouge, which will be released on May 25 by Le Cherche midi editions. At the heart of his anger and concerns: the place and care of victims of aggression in France, all too often left to themselves.

Find the testimony of Judikael Hirel.
