A mobilization in the middle of the Cannes Film Festival. The prefecture of Alpes-Maritimes issued an order Saturday authorizing the use of drones during a demonstration declared this Sunday against the pension reform in the department. A decision justified by the presence of a "serious risk of disturbing public order," says the prefecture, adding that "the mobilizations against the pension reform are inscribed, this year, in a context of particular animosity".
The planned route respects the perimeter of prohibition of demonstrations during the Cannes Film Festival. The mobilization at the call of the unions must take place precisely between Le Cannet and Cannes, says France Bleu Azur. The unions have called for a meeting from the roundabout of Great Britain to Le Cannet, before going down the Boulevard Carnot to the station of Cannes.
A drone will be able to fly over the event from 10am to 14pm
Conditions of use of drones have been specified. The prefecture indicates that "the use of recording, recording and transmission of images will begin at 10 a.m. until 14 p.m. (scheduled time of the end of the gathering)". In detail, only a drone will be able to fly over the demonstration, following the "perimeter declared in the prefecture by the CGT [and] any axis taken by the demonstration in the event of an impromptu change of route".
Authorities are already allowed to use drones to monitor the Cannes Film Festival. The prefecture of Alpes-Maritimes has issued an order authorizing their use from 16 to 27 May 2023. Drones can thus be used on the Croisette to prevent "risks of aggression, theft or trafficking of weapons, human beings or drugs, as well as the protection of public buildings and facilities," according to the prefecture.

The use of drones, in support of the police, remains contested by many collectives and associative actors, such as the Association for the Defence of Constitutional Freedoms (Adelico).
