On June 11, provincial legislators are elected and the mayor of Buenos Aires sent his Minister of Culture to build bridges from art and carve in the lists. 'We are Valdesistas', was the message to the radical governor in a province where the Frente de Todos is a minority and Javier Milei does not play.

"We are little heard at the national level," a singer from Correntino toldEnrique Avogadro, Minister of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires. The talk took place in a specialty café in the capital of Cordoba where the official, visiting the province on the occasion of the arteCO fair for which the Buenos Aires administration collaborated with the dissemination and visibility of it, brought together a group of local artists to listen to their concerns and needs. At his side, Damián Garavano, brand new president of the PRO of Corrientes and host of the meeting.

Corrientes, governed by the radical Gustavo Valdés, will go to the polls on June 11 in another super electoral Sunday - Mendoza, San Luis and Tucumán also vote - although here only 5 provincial senators and 15 provincial deputies will be elected. Due to the intervention suffered by the province in 1999, the elections for governor were out of step with the rest of the country.

The province was one of the districts that split its calendar from the national. There was even a split in the unfolding: the six municipalities governed by Peronism will hold their elections in October.

In the capital of Cordoba you can only see posters of ECo + Vamos Corrientes that mostly carry the face of Valdés. Some, with smaller photographs, bear the faces of the leading candidates, historical leaders including Ricardo Colombi, who would be preparing to return to the governorship in 2025.

Argentina chooses 2023

The Frente de Todos is a clear minority, to the point that we have to do an exploratory job to find some street remnants of the ruling party's campaign.

During the summer, on the occasion of the national holidays, Valdés received the presidential candidates of all the forces that make up Together for Change. For arteCO Gerardo Morales sent his officials from the area of Culture of Jujuy, who prepare their own electoral / cultural meeting to celebrate the Pachamama Festival in August, days before the PASO.

This week Patricia Bullrich is expected to be present in Corrientes again, while before June 11 Horacio Rodríguez Larreta will also return. Meanwhile, the head of government sends his troops in the form of cultural ambassadors.

Minister Avogadro traveled for a couple of hours to the province to be present at the fair and meet with the artists. In turn, the Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires, through the Cultural Bridges program, sponsored in arteCO the talk Practices and Challenges of Curatorship in Various Territories, where the curator Sebastián Vidal Mackinson participated. There it was proposed to think about territorialities in the art world beyond geographical contexts and the call to participate in the Art Week was promoted, a program in which artists from all over the country can be registered.

The culture to close the rift (and to carve in the lists)

The strategy of building cultural bridges to oil ties between the provinces and Rodríguez Larreta gained momentum in the summer of 2022, when the presidential candidate could be seen for the first time swarming through all the national festivals.

For his part, Avogadro reproduces in the provinces what he does at the local level: he goes down to the territory, meets with artists of all disciplines and consecrations, and leaves promises of collaboration at the federal level from the City in the form of programs or aid to bring provincial proposals to CABA.

"We have to occupy spaces", is heard to say in the Buenos Aires Culture team and refer to the little federal management that the Ministry of Culture of the Nation has shown during the last three years.

Together for Change is preparing to capitalize on June 11 two assured victories. On the one hand Mendoza, which is presented as the main bet, and on the other hand Corrientes, where no one doubts that Valdés will sweep - in 2021 he was reelected with more than 70% of the votes - and will stay with the majorities of the 15 seats of deputies and the 5 of senators that are put into play.

The PRO managed to place Lorena Lazaroff as the second candidate for deputy. The shipowners of the head of government in Corrientes recognize that she is closer to Patricia Bullrich. "First of all, we are Valdesistas," they clarify.

The Javier Milei factor in the land of chamamé is just a media phenomenon. The detractors of Peronism maintain that the old PJ leaders who are trying to survive in their positions sent emissaries to talk with the presidential candidate of La Libertad Avanza to add their ballots to those of the economist to try to boost his popularity. However, the Blue and White Union party, identified with Milei, did not register for the midterm elections.
