Sinn Fein confirmed its good form, coming out ahead in the local elections that have just taken place in Northern Ireland. An election that was a test, while the unionists of the DUP (Democratic Unionist Party) continue to block the Northern Irish executive.
The nationalist party, which supports the reunification of the island, easily came out ahead, winning 144 of the 462 seats in the eleven municipal councils of the British province. Sinn Fein leader in Northern Ireland, Michelle O'Neill, hailed the "historic" results. For her, the message is clear: voters want the institutions to work again. She assured that Sinn Fein would "redouble its efforts to restore the executive power" blocked for a year by the DUP. The centrist and non-sectarian Alliance party, a "neither-nor" party, neither nationalist nor unionist, also managed nice scores, taking third place.
