INTERVIEW - The deputy (Renaissance) of Morbihan and former soldier is the rapporteur of the military programming law. For him, the LPM 2024-2030 ensures the "coherence" of the armies.


THE FIGARO. - Thanks to the 2024-2030 military programming law, the budget of the armed forces should amount to 413 billion euros. Is that enough?

Jean-Michel JACQUES. - In 2030, the budget of the armed forces will reach 69 billion euros. In ten years, it will have more than doubled. It was a necessity. There is nothing too much. Our collective duty is to make our fellow citizens understand the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the stakes in the Indo-Pacific, in exo-atmospheric space, the impact of informational attacks or in cyberspace... If our democracies do not rearm, by investing in equipment or in research, we simply risk being downgraded.

In absolute terms, we should obviously be able to do more. But we must take into account the realities of the France of 2023. To those who criticise the amount of expenditure, I say that a defenceless country cannot have a social, educational or health policy. We see this with cyberattacks against...
