Democratic legality is struggling, almost everywhere. It is a trait of the period. In America, as elsewhere, the substance of Woke culture consists in bending the notion of law, and justice, to the arbitrary sentences of the government of morality. Trumpism, on the other hand, flouts the laws in the name of the Constitution, which it appends to its conspiracy presumptions and excesses: yesterday, by attacking the Capitol to prevent the ratification of the presidential election; recently, by the voice of a Donald Trump threatened with indictment, which foreshadowed, in the form of a call to arms, "death and destruction", if he were to be arrested.
But there are two countries where the challenge to legal order has taken on the guise of a civil rebellion. In France, a pension reform, included in the program of a duly elected president, discussed and adopted by the national representation, then validated by the Constitutional Council, has been bitterly contested for months - especially since it was necessary to resort to it...
