Apparently with more than 100 kilometers per hour on the speedometer, a Mercedes driver has caused a serious accident. Has the car ever been part of a race?
Hamburg – The driver of a Mercedes caused a serious accident at high speed on Rentzelstraße in the Rotherbaum district on Saturday evening, May 13. With his car, the 28-year-old man rushed into a total of six cars and several bicycles that had been parked on the street around 23 p.m.

In the crash, the Mercedes crashed into a parked Citroën and then landed on the roof. Both vehicles were completely destroyed. The driver, in turn, was only slightly injured and freed from the wreckage of the vehicle by a first responder. The 28-year-old was then taken to a hospital.

At the scene of the accident, in addition to the parking spaces for cars and bicycles, there is also the outdoor area of a restaurant, which was already closed at the time of the accident. In addition to the injured driver, no other people were injured. The financial damage, in turn, amounts to more than 200,000 euros, according to the police.
Witnesses wanted after serious Mercedes accident in Hamburg – vehicle allegedly involved in races
Witness testimony suggests that the driver of the Mercedes may have engaged in an illegal car race before the accident. This suspicion is part of the ongoing investigation by the Hamburg police, his spokesman said when asked by 24hamburg.de. A speed of more than 100 kilometers per hour was indicated on Saturday by a several dozen meters long brake track of the Mercedes.
Already in 2021, the same vehicle was allegedly noticed on the A7 during a suspected road race. In April 2021, several motorists reported that several cars had already been travelling at high speed on the motorway towards Hamburg near Neumünster. Although the license plates on the vehicles are different in comparison between the two incidents, other details on the cars are identical and indicate the same equipment.

It was only at the level of the Bahrenfeld junction that the partially tuned vehicles could be stopped by the police in 2021. For this purpose, all traffic on the motorway was slowed down. A large contingent of emergency services then checked the road users.

The front passenger of the green AMG GT R in particular attracted negative attention. The then 26-year-old man did not want to give out his cell phone. The police finally cracked down, officers took away his cell phone and handcuffed the recalcitrant man. After the police had checked all the occupants of the vehicle, the men were allowed to continue their journey. No further measures were taken at the time, and the public prosecutor's office saw no reason to do so.
Whether it is actually the same vehicle has not been officially confirmed. Police spokesman Florian Abbenseth commented on the suspicion: "I can't understand that it would have been the same vehicle. In any case, I can't find any process in this regard with the license plate." This may also be due to the fact that the mission at that time began in Neumünster and ended in Hamburg. Therefore, the "file situation" should be in Schleswig-Holstein and not in Hamburg.
