At a special meeting on Sunday in honor of Jerusalem Day, the Cabinet will approve a three-year plan worth NIS 95 million to encourage young new immigrants to stay and settle in Jerusalem.
According to the plan, which was written in cooperation with the Jerusalem Municipality and with the assistance of the Jewish Agency, the state will act to encourage young immigrants (aged 18-35, single and married) to settle in Jerusalem and to constitute a significant component in its development in all areas of life.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, more than 18,2018 new immigrants immigrated to Israel and settled first in Jerusalem starting in 18, about half of them aged 35-30. However, about <> per cent of them have left Jerusalem in the past five years.
The Ministry of Aliyah and Integration has enlisted other government ministries, including the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture and Sports, which together will provide a budget of about NIS 95 million (NIS 31.5 million a year over three years).
Act on several levels
The program will operate on several levels, including encouraging aliyah to Jerusalem, which will include holding annual fairs abroad, establishing centers for young immigrants in the city, and building special programs for the placement of professional immigrants in Jerusalem.

In addition, special educational programs will be operated for immigrant children in Jerusalem, introductory tours will be set up for immigrants in order to meet the need for adapted culture and leisure (for this purpose, the cultural basket in the city will be increased), and the promotion of a unique program to increase the number of national service personnel in the capital in order to assist immigrants will be examined.
Minister of Aliyah and Integration Ofir Sofer: "This is an excellent program that will bring young people, academics and families to the city. The plan will strengthen the city in all aspects – economically, Zionist and demographically."
Mayor Moshe Leon: "We are the city that absorbs the largest immigration in Israel. The young immigrants are integrated into the city and contribute in all areas of life. I intend to invest in encouraging aliyah and in absorption baskets for the coming years."
