Shock moment at the wedding ceremony of Ludwig Prince of Bavaria and his Sophie-Alexandra in Munich: The bride suddenly tipped over.

Munich - The guests at the dream wedding of Ludwig Prince of Bavaria and his Sophie-Alexandra held their breath: The bride suddenly collapsed shortly after saying "I do" in the church. This is reported by tz reporter Maria Zsolnay, who was among the approximately 1000 guests in Munich's Theatinerkirche.

The wedding ceremony in Munich's Theatinerkirche between Ludwig, Prince of Bavaria and Sophie-Alexandra took place on Saturday (20.5.), about five months after the civil wedding. At first, everything went according to plan: The groom (40) - great-great-grandson of the last Bavarian King Ludwig III - had appeared early in the morning with his mother Beatrix. The 33-year-old bride arrived just before the wedding ceremony began, all in white, in a long lace dress, with a bouquet of lilies of the valley in her hand. Sophie-Alexandra was accompanied by flower children. Some of them also wore the long, delicate bridal veil. The Archbishop of Munich and Cardinal Reinhard Marx welcomed the bride on Odeonsplatz, then she moved into the magnificent baroque church alongside her father Dorus Evekink - to the sounds of the Bavarian anthem and the ringing of bells.

Shock at Wittelsbach wedding in Munich: bride suddenly collapses

Cardinal Marx performed the wedding ceremony. Shortly after the vows and the blessing, the shock: bride Sophie-Alexandra has suddenly sagged away. The almost 1000 guests took their breath away, many immediately rushed to her, including Prince Leopold of Bavaria, who had a dextrose ready. The rescue workers from the Malteser service also rushed to help and nursed her back to health.

In the end, it was "just" a fainting spell. The service had to be interrupted briefly. In response to Marx's question "Can we continue?" there was not only the bride's okay, but also the groom's double thumbs up. Punctually at half past 12, the bride and groom were able to move out of the church. Sophie-Alexandra was able to laugh again. The two newlyweds kissed and posed for the photographers. After a drink, she was well again, a spokesman confirmed.

Söder had mused in the morning about adaptability as an inheritance of the nobility in Bavaria. The Wittelsbachs were first for Napoleon to become kings of Bavaria, then they were against Napoleon in order to be able to remain kings, said the CSU politician on Saturday in Munich. Söder (56) spoke of a certain "suppleness" of the former ruling family. "Maybe this has been transferred into the genes of today's politicians," joked Söder before the start of the church wedding of a great-great-grandson of the last Bavarian king.

The Wittelsbachs, who were the Bavarian ruling house until the end of the monarchy in 1918, were "ordinary majesties", very artistic and not belligerent, Söder emphasized. The wedding of Ludwig Prince of Bavaria (40) with Sophie-Alexandra Evekink (33) ties in with a "beautiful tradition", said Söder. This was "a beautiful day for all of us," said Bavaria's head of government.

After the wedding ceremony, Franz Duke of Bavaria, head of the House of Wittelsbach, invites you to a reception at Nymphenburg Palace. The guests celebrate an unforgettable day - but everyone would have been only too happy to do without the fainting spell. Get well soon, Sophie-Alexandra! (mz/lin/dpa)
