Ukraine may have destroyed ten Russian tanks worth about 50 million euros with a single Himars missile on Friday night.

Donetsk - The Ukrainian army is said to have destroyed ten Russian T-90 tanks at once in the Ukraine war on Friday night with a hit by the US Himars rocket launcher. This was reported by Ukrainian war correspondent Andrei Tsaplienko on his Telegram channel on Friday (19 May). Initially, the information could not be independently verified, but drone images show tanks parked close to each other.

Ukrainian army may hit ten T-90 tanks with a Himars projectile

Kharkiv-born journalist Tsaplienko shared the images on his Telegram channel on Friday. According to him, several tanks could be seen on the aerial photographs, in one section alone there are eight suspected T-90s parked relatively close to each other. "It is reported that a company of Russian T-90 tanks, up to ten tanks, was destroyed by a Himars hit at night," the journalist wrote. Himars is a US-made multiple rocket launcher and is considered highly mobile and particularly precise.

According to Tsaplienko, the military vehicles were first spotted by a Poseidon drone in the Petrovsky district of the Russian-occupied Donetsk region. The real goal of the T-90 tanks could have been an attack on nearby Maryinka, the journalist suspects. The information was not initially confirmed by either the Ukrainian or the Russian side. However, the images are actually supposed to show the Petrovsky district, as the RTL/ntv verification team proved. The vegetation also fits the current recording date, according to ntv. However, this is not an unequivocal confirmation of the events reported by Tsaplienko. Initially, it was also unclear whether the tanks had previously been functional.

David vs. Goliath: Ukraine probably destroys tanks worth 50 million euros with 150,000 euros projectile

According to estimates, the T-90 tank of the Russian army will cost around five million euros each, depending on the equipment, generation and variant. If the reports are true, Ukraine would have destroyed Russian equipment worth 50 million euros in a few moments - with a missile that itself costs about 150,000 euros. It is not the first report of its kind. Back in May last year, a simple anti-tank rifle allegedly detonated a modern T-90M tank of the Russians. According to a report in Stern magazine, in January of this year, even one of the most powerful variants of this tank, a T90M Proryw, was destroyed with the help of a fairly simple defensive weapon, the Swedish AT4.
