In southern Italy, Europe's most active volcano, Etna, erupted on Sunday, covering entire parts of Sicily's largest city — Catania — in a cloud of volcanic ash. As a result of the situation, flights at the city's airport were even stopped.

Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said the combination of the cloud created by the mountain and the rain that began to fall prevented visual tracking of the eruption, but it could be said that ash began to accumulate on at least one of the towns on the slopes. So far, no injuries have been reported from the lava and ash.
Already in recent days, an increase in tremors has been measured, and the institute warned of a "sudden" change that may occur in light of the frequent eruptions of the mountain, which, as stated, is the most active on the continent. On Sunday, residents reported the sound of explosions coming from it, and as stated, it did erupt.
In 2021, a similar outbreak lasted several weeks.
