Lost, not lost? A good dose of confusion reigns since Saturday on the situation in Bakhmut, scene of a bloody hand-to-hand combat of ten months between the Ukrainian forces and the Russian militia Wagner, personal army of the brutal and harsh Yevgeny Prigogine. Vladimir Putin congratulated the executor on his dirty work and promised him a medal for winning a battle that is clearly not over. The Ukrainians now control only an "insignificant" part of the city flattened to 90% by the bombs, but they try a maneuver of encirclement to trap the "winner" in the very heart of his trophy. Whatever the outcome, we have just seen the first significant advance of the Russians since their pitiful withdrawals north of Kiev, Kharkiv and Kherson. Symbolically, gaining the upper hand in the "Bakhmut chopper", where they were reputed to lose three to seven times more men than the Ukrainian defenders, is not negligible for the master of the Kremlin...
