Highlights: The 150th anniversary of the founding of the Fraunberg fire brigade was celebrated on Sunday. The week of festivities ended on Sunday with a church service and ribbon blessing. Minister of State Ulrike Scharf praised the voluntary commitment of the 325,000 firefighters in Bavaria, 312,000 of whom were volunteers. The fire brigade is an institution from which a village, a community, lives, because the people are committed, says Pastor Richard Greul of the Wartenberg market chapel.

150 years of the Fraunberg Fire Brigade: The week of festivities ended on Sunday with a church service and ribbon blessing.

Fraunberg – After five successful days of celebrations to mark their 150th anniversary, the celebrations of the Fraunberg firefighters have come to an end with a big day of celebration and church service at the community center. "If that's not a nice moment. We are all thrilled," said fire brigade chairman Georg Atzberger and thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the festival.

14 guest clubs, including nine fire brigades and five local associations, came to the festival Sunday with their flag delegations. Taferlbub of the Fraunberger Festverein was Tobias Atzberger, son of the chairman. They all moved with many guests of honor after a white sausage dinner and led by the Wartenberg market chapel to the festive service with Pastor Richard Greul and Deacon Christian Pastötter at the community center. The youth firefighters recited the intercessions, Kai von Fraunberg the reading. His daughter Adriana wore the patron's commemorative ribbon, and her sister Amalie read out the ribbon after the blessing: "The new ribbon, which is consecrated today, is to exhort you to eternity and together with brave courage to protect your belongings from catastrophes and embers of fire. To commemorate our feast, take this ribbon that we give you. May happiness and success, God's blessings always accompany you, in good times and bad."

Greul, who is a firefighter himself, congratulated him on his birthday. The fire brigade is an institution from which a village, a community, lives, because the people are committed. "Jesus said, 'Be vigilant to always do what is right.' When the beeper goes off and the siren wails, we drop everything. We know what's important now," Greul said. The common good comes before self-interest, which is what the fire brigade has stood for for 150 years.

The music for the service was provided by the Fraunberg Church Choir under the direction of Marion Anzinger and the Wartenberg Brass Band under the direction of Anton Zollner. Afterwards, the guests of honour congratulated with speeches. Patron Mayor Hans Wiesmaier thanked his fire brigade, which radiates great confidence. "We are making history today – it is the first day of the next 150 years of the Fraunberg Fire Department." Minister of State Ulrike Scharf praised the voluntary commitment of the 325,000 firefighters in Bavaria, 312,000 of whom were volunteers. "I'm not afraid or anxious for the future when I see you here," Scharf said.

District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer said it was "moving to see how recognized firefighters are. Firefighters mean humanity, so I appeal to you: Stay tuned, don't let up! There are always those who don't like something."

Together with many citizens, the clubs then moved to the festival hall. There, after lunch and the greetings of District Fire Commissioner Florian Pleiner and District Fire Chief Thomas Metz, Fire Brigade Chairman Atzberger distributed the commemorative gifts. For entertainment, the Wartenberg market band played before the festival was officially ended in the afternoon. The Wartenberg restaurateur and festival host Anton Müller, who comes from Bachham, had cooked up the food every day. The sound in the marquee and during the service was provided by Werner Kobilak from the Wartenberg sound system.

Already on Friday, 350 pensioners from the municipality of Giggerl and a mass of beer sponsored by the district enjoyed a senior citizens' afternoon organized by the district. Sabine Steiger, Ruth Preuße, Andreas Renner and Christine Wippenbeck from the district office had discussed and organized everything with Atzberger in the best possible way.

Since District Administrator Bayerstorfer and his deputies were on the road elsewhere, Wiesmaier provided an entertaining afternoon in the presence of his fellow mayors Hans Rasthofer and Anni Gfirtner as well as Deacon Pastötter, Pastor Jozo Karlic and Senior Citizens' Representative Sophie Angermaier with casual sayings and a short review from the fire brigade chronicle.

"Sing it along, until the teeth are out," Anton Schlehhuber animated the seniors, who with his music friends Rudi Ernst, Hans Krämmer and Gust Wimmer ensured a good mood with music and wit. The firefighters then spoiled the seniors with coffee and homemade cakes and pies.

In the evening, there was a big celebration in the full festival hall at the wine festival with the party band Groove Garage. People danced and celebrated until the early hours of the morning. Many laughs and a fun evening were provided on Saturday by the well-known Lower Bavarian cabaret artist Fonse Doppelhammer.
