After two months closed, the San Martín station of the subway C was operational again on Monday. Waterproofing, painting, replacement of floors and luminaires, blacksmithing work, rearrangement of power lines, adaptation of signage and new furniture on the platform, such as benches, baskets and ischial supports, were carried out.

Although the stop is operational, from Subterráneos de Buenos Aires Sociedad del Estado (Sbase) reported that some works will continue outside the usual operating hours of the Buenos Aires subway.

Everything happens within the framework of the Comprehensive Station Renovation Plan, which began on March 1 with the closure of San Martín and continued on line D with Bulnes, which ceased to be operational on March 8.

The original plan was to also close the Faculty of Medicine, but before the protest of students and the different universities that operate around Houssay Square, it was decided that the work will be done gradually but with the stop in service.

On March 27, trains on Line A stopped stopping at Castro Barros, which will be the next to reopen. And on April 5, the same thing happened in Acoyte. Ten days later work began in Jujuy, but on line E, a station with more passenger attendance, since it is the one used to combine with line H.

Therefore, those who need it can request a combination ticket at the ticket offices of Urquiza and Pichincha (adjacent to Jujuy in the E) or in Humberto 1°.

From Sbase they set the time of works in two months. However, the deadlines, in the case of San Martín, were extended beyond what was planned and the stop reopened two months and 20 days after being closed.

This Monday reopened renovated the San Martin station of the Subway C, which had closed for works in March.

Upcoming works

The second stage of the project, still without precise deadlines, extends to Lima of line A; Carlos Pellegrini, Uruguay, Pasteur-Amia, Pueyrredón and Carlos Gardel de la B; Diagonal Norte de la C; and Cathedral, 9 de Julio, Tribunals, Agüero, Scalabrini Ortiz, Plaza Italia and Palermo, of the D.

"The choice and prioritization of each station was made based on two factors: the complexity of the work to be carried out and the number of passengers that circulate through each of them," said Sbase.

They also reported that some of the stations are between 78 and 109 years old. Thirteen are considered of high heritage value: this is the case of San Martín, Bulnes, Faculty of Medicine, Jujuy, Lima, Diagonal Norte, 9 de Julio, Cathedral, Tribunals, Agüero, Scalabrini Ortiz, Plaza Italia and Palermo.

As for the reforms, the sources also stated that they "will preserve the identity of the stations. The companies in charge of the work must follow guidelines from conservation specialists. They will also maintain contact with the General Directorate of Heritage, Museums and Historic Center of the City Government.

An example is the work with the ceramic majolica of the walls. From each of them, matrices are developed so that, at the time of replenishing them, these precepts are complied with. Even your removal should follow procedures led by restoration experts.
