The "Café Habecks" on the island of Rügen is getting a new name. The owner is frustrated by the German Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate.
Rügen \u2012 On the island of Rügen, the operator of a coffee shop is making headlines. Vanessa Wellbrock is fed up with the name "Habeck". In the future, her café will bear her name and will not commemorate the incumbent Green politician Robert Habeck.
Café-Stube on Rügen: Operator neither related nor related by marriage to Robert Habeck
Wellbrock is neither related nor related by marriage to Economics Minister Habeck, she simply took over the name of her room from the previous owner, reports the Berliner Morgenpost (Mopo). But the planned liquefied natural gas terminal off the island has upset the café operator. The minister, on the other hand, justifies the location on the holiday island of Rügen with a view to the current energy crisis. But with this "safety buffer" for Germany, Climate Minister Robert Habeck has apparently made no friends on the Baltic Sea island. After all, the island thrives on tourism.

LNG terminal off the coast of Rügen
Starting next winter, the new terminal will deliver liquefied natural gas via a pipeline of around 50 kilometers from Mukran to Lubmin on the mainland. This is where the german-Russian pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2, which are no longer in operation, land, and there are several pipelines with large capacity for further distribution. While the German government continues to push ahead with the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Mukran in the east of Rügen, the LNG import already underway on the island is causing resentment. Critics, especially on the island of Rügen, fear for the environment and tourism, which is important for Rügen.
"Café Habeck" operator draws consequences: From 1 June, her parlour will be given a new name
Café owner Wellbrock is now drawing her conclusions. On June 1, the name Habeck is to disappear. Soon their room will only be called "Wellbrocks". It's hard to say whether Vanessa Wellbrock's renaming is about the environment or she's just a clever businesswoman. Perhaps "Habeck is using it for her own publicity. We'll see," rumours the Mopo. In any case, she has attracted attention with her announcement. Perhaps it is only the beginning of the citizens' anger.
It is not only on Rügen that the minister is causing quite a stir. A climate researcher recommends a complete restart for the heating transition.
