Elections in Córdoba: Together for Change wins the mayoralty of Corral de Bustos to Peronism

Highlights: José María Odarda won as elected mayor in the municipality of Corral de Bustos-Ifflinger, in the department Juárez Celman. The candidate of Together for Change was consecrated at the polls against the candidate of Juan Schiaretti, Santiago Giovagnoli. The current Peronist mayor Roberto Pacheco is serving two consecutive terms and could not run for a third term. For the first time, the Single Ballot of Suffrages (BUS) was used.

The candidate of Together for Change, José María Odarda, won as elected mayor in the elections of the municipality of Corral de Bustos-Ifflinger, in the department Juárez Celman, in the prelude to the provincial elections of Córdoba in which the coalition plays an important card for October.

With more than 95% of the votes counted, Odarda obtained 51.6% of the votes, and Giovagnoli, current president of the Deliberative Council, 41.7%. Third is Carlos Rodriguez, candidate of the Libertarian Party, with just 3.28%.

From the Cordovan radicalism they came out to greet the triumph of Odarda. Gubernatorial candidate Luis Juez said: "Great triumph in Corral de Bustos! Congratulations José María Odarda and all the neighbors who achieved the change they deserve. You can feel the change that's coming for the whole province."

For his part, the Radical Evolution candidate for the mayor of the city of Córdoba, Rodrigo de Loredo, also expressed himself. "Enormous triumph in Corral de Bustos, with José Odarda and the team of Together for Change, against the Peronist ruling party. The vocation for change in the interior of Córdoba is reaffirmed, come on!" he said.

The current Peronist mayor Roberto Pacheco, of the schiarettista space of Hacemos Unidos por Córdoba is serving two consecutive terms and could not run for a third term. He promoted as his successor the president of the Deliberative Council, Santiago Giovagnoli, who competed with the official list Mas Corral.

Together for Change is preparing for the gubernatorial elections in Córdoba scheduled for June 25. It will be a fundamental place for the opposition coalition, which in 2015 won the presidency for Mauricio Macri thanks to the Cordovan vote.

The celebrations for the consecration in Corral de Bustos were also echoed by the president of the UCR bloc in the Chamber of Deputies, Mario Negri, and the president of the party, governor of Jujuy and presidential candidate, Gerardo Morales.

The population of Corral de Bustos Iffinger has about 12,000 inhabitants and about 8,500 inhabitants were authorized to vote in 25 tables installed in three schools. For the first time, the Single Ballot of Suffrages (BUS) was used.

The greeting of Juan Schiaretti

The governor and presidential candidate, Juan Schiaretti, congratulated the winning candidate, who prevailed over his candidate. He did so through a message on his Twitter account.

"I want to congratulate the new mayor-elect of #CorralDeBustos, José María Odarda, and the entire population for this democratic day. I ratify our commitment to continue working for the progress of #Córdoba together with the 427 municipalities and communes," he wrote.

How the electoral calendar continues in Córdoba

In Córdoba the electoral calendar of municipalities and communes began on March 19 with elections in La Falda (Punilla department), then followed by the town of Hernando (Tercero Arriba) on March 26 and April 16 in General Cabrera (Juárez Celman), while between May and July 380 municipalities and communes will do so on eight different dates.

The province has 427 municipalities and communes. The next election date will be May 28 with electoral processes in 29 municipalities and communes: Paso Viejo and Tuclame (Cruz del Eje department); Villa Sarmiento (General Roca); Copacabana (Ischilín); Assunta and Charras (Juárez Celman); Cruz Alta (Marcos Juárez); Alcira Gigena, Bulnes, Chucul, Coronel Moldes, Las Acequias and Las Vertientes (Río Cuarto).

Also voting that day will be Laguna Larga (Río Segundo Department), Lozada and Potrero de Garay (Santa María); Las Isletillas, Pampayasta Sud and Punta del Agua (Third Up); Chapel of Siton and Los Mistoles (Totoral); San José de las Salinas (Tulumba); and San José de las Salinas, Aldea Santa María, Benjamin Gould, Canals, Cintra, Colonia Bismarck, Colonia Bremen and Idiazábal (Unión department).

Meanwhile, on June 25, governor and vice governor, 70 provincial legislators (the Legislature is completely renewed), mayors and other local authorities in 227 localities will be elected.
