A man was killed and his two children injured when a grenade exploded at their home in Indiana on Saturday, according to authorities.
The deceased was identified Sunday by the Lake County medical examiner's office as Bryan Niedert, 47. "The injuries, cause and manner of death are pending," authorities said in a statement.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to the home at 3400 W. Lakeshore Drive around 6:30 p.m. after an explosion was reported.
The family was searching Grandpa's belongings at the northwest Indiana home when they found a hand grenade. The device detonated when someone pulled the lock, according to authorities.

The father was found unconscious and pronounced dead later. Her two children, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old girl, were taken to an area hospital with shrapnel wounds.
The Porter County Bomb Squad responded to the area to guard it and determine if there were other explosive devices, according to the sheriff's office, which continues to investigate the incident.
The medical examiner's office said it will perform an autopsy on Niedert's body Monday.
