Lewis Hamilton has been struggling at the wheel of Mercedes Benz for quite some time. The team does not find the faults in the assembly of its car and increasingly moves away from the version of monarch that knew how to show in the hybrid era conquering seven titles, four of them consecutively (2008, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020).
Despite the complicated moment he is going through with his current team, the British driver was responsible, on more than one occasion, to highlight that he wants to remain linked to Mercedes for a while longer: "My goal is to continue with Mercedes. I've been with Mercedes since I was 13. And Mercedes-Benz really is my family."
The seven-time Formula 1 champion ends his contract with the German marque this season and there still seems to be no indication of a possible renewal.
"It's extremely uncomfortable. Every three years we have this situation. It's like negotiating financial terms with your best friend, your close friend. I wish the best for him, but in the position I'm in, I have to think about what's best for the team. This could be the first time in 10 or 11 years that we are together and our goals have diverged," said Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff.
Given this situation, and as reported by the portal of the English newspaper Daily Mail, the president of Ferrari, John Elkann, would have sent an offer of 40 million euros to Hamilton.
Likewise, the English media announced what are the two variables that the Maranello team manages so that the dream of signing the 38-year-old Briton becomes a reality.
The first option is to pair Charles Leclerc with Lewis Hamilton. This would mean looking for a way out for Spaniard Carlos Sainz. The other alternative would be an exchange. On the one hand, Hamilton and Sainz at Ferrari, and, on the other, Leclerc and Russel at Mercedes. What will happen?
