Dozens of dunams of date groves burned Monday night near Kibbutz Kalia, north of the Dead Sea. More than 20 fire crews arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control. An investigative team investigating the circumstances of the fire determined that there was reasonable suspicion of deliberate arson.

During the night, Highway 90 was closed to traffic from Kibbutz Kalia Junction to the Lido Junction, due to the large amount of smoke in the area and in order to enable firefighting efforts.

Binyamin Fire Station Commander Ido Peretz said: "The teams that arrived at the scene identified that it was a fire in date groves that was spreading rapidly under the cover of the strong winds and were divided into different work sectors in order to enclose the fire and stop its spread. At the moment, control of the area has been achieved and firefighters will remain on the ground in the coming hours for complementary firefighting operations."

At the same time, another fire broke out today near the Segula junction in the Petah Tikva area. More than 20 airplane-assisted fire crews are working to extinguish the fire, which has not yet been brought under control. Crews are trying to stop the fire from spreading to buildings in the industrial and commercial zone near the intersection.

Due to the fire on the side of the tracks near the Petah Tikva Purple train station, and on the instructions of the fire officials, train traffic at the Raanana, Hod Hasharon, Kfar Saba Nordau, Rosh HaAyin North, Petah Tikva and Bnei Brak stations was temporarily halted. Route 40 from Segula Junction to Yarkonim Junction was also blocked to traffic.
