WhatsApp: it will soon be possible to modify the messages sent

After Twitter, iMessages... make way for WhatsApp! On Monday, Meta announced that editing messages after they are sent will soon be possible on instant messaging app WhatsApp. Contacted by Le Parisien, the company specifies that this new feature will be available in the "coming weeks" in France.

A "modified" statement will appear

In a press release, Meta specifies the contours of this novelty. Messages can be modified within fifteen minutes of being sent. Once the messages have been changed, a "modified" mention will appear, so that recipients are notified. But they will not be able to see the original message.

"Whether it's to correct a spelling mistake or put a message in context, this new feature gives users more control over their discussions," Meta wrote in its statement to justify the implementation of this new feature on its application.

"As with all personal messages, media, and calls, your messages and the changes you make to them are protected by end-to-end encryption," Meta says. This feature already exists for iPhone users who, since June 2022, can edit their iMessages with the iOS 16 update.
