Highlights: After a rainy May, summer is now in the starting blocks at the turn of the month – it will already be very warm and dry around Pentecost. The ensemble forecast until June 7 "clearly shows us where the journey is going," says wetternet meteorologist Dominik Jung. After the many rainy days in spring, great weather news for most people in Bavaria. For nature, however, it is rather sobering news. Nuremberg – The sun was shining all over Bavaria at the weekend, and the weather was also showing its early summer side over Middle Franconia. Will it stay that way? Many rain-stricken people in Bavaria are currently asking themselves this question and are eagerly awaiting the forecasts at the turn of the month. And it's becoming apparent: summer will soon pick up speed.

Middle Franconia before the beginning of meteorological summer: Does the weather deliver what it promises?

According to wettermail.de, in which Stefan Ochs reports on the current weather in the Middle Franconia region, it will be rather cloudy and cool in the coming days until the weekend. Just in time for Pentecost and the meteorological beginning of summer on June 1 (Thursday next week), it will get warmer day by day from Monday, May 29. The ensemble forecast until June 7 "clearly shows us where the journey is going," says the weather expert. "It will get warmer and warmer at the turn of the month, on average around 25 degrees, first outliers over 30 degrees." And: There are hardly any precipitation signals left, so one can assume that it has rained out for the time being.

Summer start at Pentecost: "Dry affair"

Just in time for the beginning of summer, it will be warm and dry in Middle Franconia. After the many rainy days in spring, great weather news for most people in Bavaria. For nature, however, it is rather sobering news. After the permanently too dry previous years, the supposedly rather rainy year 2023 was an urgently needed refreshment for animals, plants and trees.

But it was not enough to sustainably counteract the drought caused by climate change and persisting in many places. The seriousness of the situation is shown, among other things, by a study published in the journal Hydrology and Water Management. According to the study, Germany has lost around 20.15 billion tonnes of water from natural reservoirs in the last 2 years.

According to the drought monitor from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, many parts of Middle Franconia are also experiencing severe to extreme drought. Especially after a winter that was clearly too dry. "It's going to be a very dry affair," said wetternet meteorologist Jung about the beginning of summer in June. Sunny prospects – which are not without worries. (FHZ)
