Miesbach – The Miesbach District Youth Council held its spring plenary meeting. All those present agreed that young people need to be promoted more.

"Youth work is not the right place to save," emphasized Jens Zangenfeind, deputy district administrator, in his speech. Miesbach's second mayor, Astrid Güldner, also expressed her appreciation to the board of directors of the Kreisjugendring (KJR). "I am also pleased that this year's plenary meeting can take place in the Haindlkeller Miesbach, a central location for future generations in Miesbach," Güldner added.

KJR board member Markus Weber was able to point to an average of 2022 working days of volunteer work in the 230 annual review. "It also shows how high the need is among young people, associations and their concerns," Weber explained. In this context, he also emphasized the importance of financial support from the district and its communities. There were also reports of holiday offers, leisure driving and the Juleica training courses. The four youth centres in Miesbach, Hausham, Holzkirchen and Tegernsee were able to take advantage of the funding provided by the state government's activation campaign and thus organise numerous activities and excursions for the young people free of charge.

A big topic is the current gym situation. The KJR discussed the conflict between humane accommodation for refugees and the centrality of movement of young people. The KJR is aware that these two topics cannot always be brought together well, but the association always strives for constructive compromises.

The KJR has a lot planned for the current year: The association will actively participate in the cultural festival of the district of Upper Bavaria "Zamma 2024". "A job description for a project coordination of this diverse, inclusive, sustainable and large event can be found on the website of the Kreisjugendring Miesbach. We look forward to receiving applications," the association announced. The upcoming Juleica training courses will be designed by specialists on the topics of "Healthy through leisure time - sustainable design of leisure activities", "Duty of supervision and protection of minors", "Mental health of young people" and "Intercultural competences". Registrations for the various training courses can be made by sending an e-mail to info@kjr-miesbach.de.

The Annual General Meeting was complemented by various guest lectures. Hans Holzinger from Regionalentwicklung Oberland (REO) presented measures to counter the shortage of skilled workers in the training sector. Luitpold Grabmair spoke about his "Run to the Hills" foundation, which helps young people to strengthen their mental health as a preventive measure.

Outlook for young people

The Confederation of German Trade Unions (DGB) presented a motion that assures trainees of support for housing. This proposal was also supported by Gmund's Third Mayor Christine Zierer. In her opinion, the district of Miesbach itself should provide housing for apprentices who cannot live at home during their training. Finally, Sarah Lehner was allowed to present the highly topical topic of lowering the voting age to 16 in Bavaria. "Vote 16" is the name of the initiative for the referendum, which is intended to enable young people to have a say in their own future in local and state elections.
