A senior Iranian official responded Tuesday evening to statements made by Israel's security leadership in an interview with the Qatari Al-Jazeera network. In his remarks, the Iranian official said that "hitting our nuclear facilities means igniting a large-scale war for which Israel will bear responsibility."
The official also said that Israel is experiencing an unprecedented state of internal weakness and is trying to demonstrate strength. "Israel is trying to justify its attacks in Syria and fears that Damascus will strengthen its air defense systems with Iranian assistance," he said.

Earlier today, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy spoke at the Herzliya Conference at Reichman University. "We look at Iran through two aspects – the nuclear program and the regional threat. Iran has made more progress in recent years in enriching uranium than ever before," the chief of staff stressed the severity of the situation, adding a veiled threat, "We are also examining very closely the other areas on the way to nuclear capability, and without going into details, I say that there are possible negative developments on the horizon that could lead to action."
