Movie star, mother, United Nations special envoy and sponsor of a number of major charities, Angelina Jolie is diving into the world of fashion.

Dr

In recent years, the 47-year-old has been seen more frequently defending refugee rights, giving speeches in support of Afghanistan's 'Women's Day', taking her children to college or screenings, or attending State Dinners honoring South Korea's president.

We've also seen her on the red carpet. His foray into the world of fashion is a surprise.

The eponymous trading company will focus on bringing to the top the hard work of tailors, pattern makers, textile designers and various other artisans from around the world, allowing customers to commission designs and garments from them. It will be a retail site with a peer-to-peer element, so to speak, that will connect shoppers and aspiring fashion designers with the people who can turn their visions into reality. In short: consumers will become creators.

Of course, it wouldn't be an Angelina Jolie adventure without some element of altruism. And in this particular case, their philanthropy depends on helping shine a light on the hard work of independent artisans, as well as supporting the efforts of skilled refugees by guiding them toward paid apprenticeships.

According to a statement issued by Jolie herself:

"I am building a place for creative people to collaborate with a skilled and diverse family of skilled tailors and artisans from around the world.

"Fashion is an art that I've had the opportunity to play with over the years. I have designed clothes and learned about shapes with many of the best tailors.

"Designers usually sketch or approve designs, but it's the tailors who make the difference and with whom I love to create. And yet, these creators rarely get the credit and respect they deserve.'

There is also an element of sustainability in the company. She promises that designs produced under the Atelier Jolie umbrella will be made exclusively from leftover, antique and dead fabrics, and the company will also encourage people to recycle and repair things they already have in their wardrobes.
