A man had to be resuscitated after a cardiac arrest Tuesday on the sidelines of a CGT demonstration at the Cannes train station, following the explosion of an agricultural bomb, an AFP journalist found. At the same time, three men, employees of GRDF and Enedis, were arrested "in flagrante delicto" and placed in custody, for having cut off gas and electricity in part of the city, according to a police source.
The elderly man, who was near a rally, suffered a cardiac arrest after the very noisy explosion and was immediately taken care of by a medical team from a CRS company.
"In a serious condition, he was first taken care of by a medical team of the CRS who performed a cardiac massage. He was then taken care of by the firefighters, "said the police source, specifying in the early afternoon that the man "was better".
This rally was organized by the union at 10:30 am against the pension reform in France, outside the perimeter prohibited by the prefecture on the occasion of the Festival. About 160 people, according to the prefecture, gathered in the morning in front of the Cannes train station, before a speech by the secretary general of the CGT Energy, Sébastien Menesplier.
At the same time, a gas and electricity cut occurred in the city, depriving the central police station of power. Many restaurants were deprived of gas, causing disruptions during the lunch service, especially on the beaches.
By early afternoon, some of these facilities were still without gas supply. Electricity and gas "have been restored but, for gas, it takes some time before customers are supplied again," the police source said. Earlier in the morning, the management of Enedis had foiled a first attempt to cut power at the Cannes-La Bocca power plant, which supplies a large part of the city of Cannes.
At the end of April, the CGT Energy had evoked "energy disturbances", targeting in particular the Cannes event, in other words projectors that could go out for lack of power. However, no cuts have occurred at the Festival since it kicked off last Tuesday.
