At Merkur's request, a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn also said that there had been weather-related disruptions on the route between Deisenhofen and Holzkirchen. Due to a lightning strike, there were restrictions in regional and S-Bahn traffic. "Initially, no train service was possible at all, so that regional trains could not run either. Some time later, isolated trains were able to pass again, and around 21:15 p.m., the weather-related disruption was resolved," said the spokesman for Deutsche Bahn.

In addition, warning level two even applies to the south of Traunstein and around Bad Reichenhall. The DWD warns of "strong thunderstorms" including high precipitation and strong gusts of wind.

Thunderstorm warnings in Bavaria – breathe a sigh of relief in Munich

Update from May 22, 20 p.m.: Munich can breathe a sigh of relief: The severe storms announced by the German Weather Service have passed by the state capital. The thunderstorm front moved westwards from Bavaria, most recently there were only level two severe weather warnings for Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Memmingen. For Landsberg and Kaufbeuren, the DWD issued level three weather warnings.

On Tuesday night, Bavaria will reach a cold front from the west, according to the DWD. Especially south of the Danube, later also in other regions, heavy rain of up to 25l/sqm, hail and gusts of up to 60 km/h are to be expected at night. During the day, isolated thunderstorms with heavy rain are possible in southern Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate.

Update from May 22, 16:30 p.m.: The weather situation in Bavaria has deteriorated: In the southern district of Munich as well as in the north of the district of Miesbach, in the northeast of Bad Tölz and in the northwest of Rosenheim, the third DWD warning level is currently in effect. The weather service literally warns of "severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail". It is an "official severe weather warning" and is the second highest warning level of the German Weather Service.

However, it is still not clear whether the storms will also affect the Munich city area. The level two weather warning for the Aschaffenburg district has also been resolved in the meantime.

First reported on 22 May:

Oberstdorf / Miesbach – High summer temperatures lured people all over Bavaria into the fresh air last weekend. In Munich, among other places, it was over 25 degrees warm. Now, however, thunderstorms are looming in the Free State – the German Weather Service (DWD) issued an official warning.

Official thunderstorm warning in Bavaria: "Heavy rain and small-grained hail"

It is scheduled to start on Monday afternoon, May 22. The DWD warns for some regions, especially in the south of Bavaria, directly on the Alps. Around Oberstdorf, in the south of Marktoberdorf, around Bad Tölz and Miesbach as well as in the northwest of Würzburg, in the eastern district of Aschaffenburg, the weather warning level two is currently in effect.

Are the thunderstorms moving to Munich? At least the temperatures are dropping

In the current wetternet video on YouTube, local thunderstorms are announced for the whole of Bavaria, at least for the night of Tuesday, May 23, as well as Tuesday itself - and thus also for the state capital Munich. According to expert Dominik Jung, temperatures will also drop to around 21 degrees on Tuesday, Wednesday, May 24, to below 20 degrees throughout Bavaria.

Given the thunderstorm situation at the moment, it is difficult to predict whether the clouds will move as far as Munich. On Monday afternoon, however, the first foothills reached the southern foothills of the Munich district, according to the DWD weather map. So it cannot be ruled out that it will still be thundery and wet in Munich on Monday evening. (FHZ)
