Some things in local politics drag on for years. It's no different in Murnau. The local Green Party is now calling for "the implementation of the mobility concept to finally be tackled". According to the town hall, this could be the case from the beginning of 2024.

Murnau – It's been a few years since the Murnau market commissioned a mobility concept. That was in 2017. The paper prepared by Team Red has been available since February 2021. As early as November 2022, a Murnau citizen had complained that nothing was moving forward in the matter. The local chapter of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen is now also calling for "the implementation of the mobility concept to finally be tackled". Traffic calming in the market and space for people is the only logical continuation of the mobility concept presented. "This can no longer be left in a drawer." The press release, sent out by local association spokeswoman Petra Daisenberger, begins with the question "The forgotten mobility concept?"

In the town hall, things are different. Phase 2 is currently underway, in which the administration is developing a catalogue of measures. The draft is to be submitted to the market town council before the summer break. This is how it is planned, according to town hall spokeswoman Annika Röttinger. "From the administration's point of view, phase 2023 could then be completed by the end of 2 at the latest." According to her, implementation (phase 3) "could then take place from the beginning of 2024 at the latest. However, since the further development of mobility is a very dynamic process, some measures that have already been adopted by a majority have already been implemented." Röttinger mentions, for example, the bicycle parking facility at the train station, the footpath on the Ock, the B2 crossing aid at the Werdenfels barracks and Ramsachstraße and the new construction of the cycle path on Seestraße. "The market town council has the opportunity to decide on a one-to-one implementation of the catalogue of measures." However, the people's representatives can also vote on each individual project, within the scope of their competence. As Röttinger pointed out back in November: "The mobility concept is not in the 'drawer', but is under development."

Increasing safety on the way to school

According to its own statements, the local Green Party association has dealt intensively with the mobility concept in recent months. In particular, he considers "Plan Three" to be suitable not only to upgrade the town centre, but also to increase the safety of the way to school. A one-way regulation is planned in Pechmannstraße/Sollerstraße, a calming down at Viehmarktplatz/Schützenplatz and one in Untermarkt,

From the point of view of the Greens, all this would have many clear advantages for the traffic situation in the market: "Traffic in the area of the schools in Pechmannstraße and Sollerstraße will be reduced by well over half." The safety of schoolchildren is the top priority. "Especially in the mornings, chaotic scenes take place at the schools. Any reduction in motor vehicle traffic helps to avoid dangerous situations." What the Greens also emphasize: "Creeping traffic has no place in urban areas." Above all, the Schloßbergstraße and Schwaigangerstraße have so far served many motorists as a shortcut from south to north and vice versa. "This traffic pollutes residential areas completely unnecessarily with noise, dirt and exhaust fumes." According to the Greens, the concept will reduce this surreptitious traffic. "Motor vehicle traffic will be reduced by more than half." In addition, traffic will be slowed down, which will allow the least protected road users (pedestrians) to move around much safer and more comfortably. From the point of view of the Greens, low speeds mean better clarity for pedestrians and more time to react.
