Walid Daka, one of the murderers of soldier Moshe Tamam in 1984, applied for early release on health grounds. On Tuesday, the State Prosecutor's Office decided that the hearing scheduled for tomorrow will deal only with the question of the committee's authority and not with the merits of the request for release. That is, whether the prisoner's request will be assigned to a regular parole committee or to a special committee charged with releasing terrorists.

Daka is currently hospitalized at Assaf Harofeh Hospital under heavy security. The State Prosecutor's Office opposes holding the prison hearing before members of the parole board and demands a hearing in a district court, due to the fact that he is a security prisoner. The IPS clarified that the decision was not under their judgment.

Terrorist Walid Daqa,

Daka, 62, was convicted of kidnapping and murdering the soldier Moshe Tamam and sentenced to life imprisonment. the

A kidnapping took place on August 6, 1984, when Tamam was on leave from his base. According to the indictment filed against Daka, the cell members picked him up at the Netanya interchange, kidnapped him and then murdered him in an olive grove near Jenin. The search for the soldier's killers lasted more than a month, but in the end they were caught and sentenced to life imprisonment. In 2012, then-President Shimon Peres decided to reduce their sentences.

A minute terrorist was scheduled for early release on medical grounds by a regular parole board. The State Prosecutor's Office objected because he was a security prisoner convicted of murdering a soldier on nationalist grounds, and according to the Anti-Terrorism Law, such a prisoner cannot stand before a regular parole board.

As noted, the court administration has scheduled a hearing on the request to be held on Wednesday. Because he is a life prisoner serving a sentence for the murder of a soldier, the State Prosecutor's Office filed a request yesterday to transfer the hearing to a special parole board, and also requested a preliminary hearing on the issue. No decision has yet been made on the application.

The PFLP called for expanding the campaign in support of Daka and all prisoners in prisons "to save their lives." A Hamas spokesman said today: "The IPS's insistence on ignoring the suffering of the prisoner with cancer, and the medical negligence that puts his life in danger are a new Zionist crime and racist behavior by the occupation government. We call on human rights institutions to act quickly to protect our heroic prisoners from the occupation's harms and to stop medical neglect." The Palestinian Foreign Ministry announced that it was demanding that the International Committee of the Red Cross intervene.
