A colony of bed bugs in the corridors of one of Lyon's main hospitals. Many pests were discovered in the surgical emergency department of the Edouard Herriot hospital, in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon, Saturday, according to information from BFM Lyon, confirmed to Le Figaro by several sources. The invasion would be linked to the care of a patient "with very degraded hygiene", says the hospital group of the Hospices civils de Lyon (HCL). Patient who was isolated the same day "in order to limit the risk of disseminationon other patients present", assures the management.
A nurse stung
Pavilion A, which hosts the service concerned, was disininshown the same day by a specialized company indicates the hospital, while a nurse who alerted the press pointed to a late reaction. The operations were reportedly repeated on Sunday and Monday, for a total of five cleanups. "Others could take place, in the future, if necessary," says the management of HCL while patients had to be temporarily redirected to pavilion G. The situation returned to normal at 17 p.m. on Monday.
But according to the CGT, bed bugs would still be present in the service. "An agent again alerted management to say that the problem was not solved, a nurse was stung during the day," says a union delegate in Le Figaro. It also highlights the risk for staff and patients of bringing these pests, which are very resistant and easily transportable home.
