Two years have passed since Operation Guardian of the Walls, which began with Hamas firing rockets at Jerusalem. However, the operation was not conducted only against the Gaza Strip, during which there were severe clashes and riots in the mixed cities in Israel. Two years later, Arab society, which is dealing with a wave of severe violence, wants change.

A special survey commissioned by Givat Haviva and conducted by the Smith Institute in the Jewish sector and the Jaffa Institute in the Arab sector found that two years after the operation, an overwhelming majority of the Arab sector says it wants to integrate into living in Jewish cities, that its children study in high schools alongside Jewish students, and that its elected officials be part of the government and decision makers.

According to the survey, 80 percent of respondents want an Arab party to sit in a coalition, a more than 1.5-fold jump from the previous poll conducted in 2021. Among Jewish respondents, too, there was a slight increase compared to the previous survey, with 47 percent wanting to see an Arab party in the coalition, an increase of 2.5 percent compared to the survey conducted two years ago.

Another question that has been asked is whether you agree that Arabs and Jews should live together in the same neighborhood. In the Arab Israeli sector, there was a 2.3-fold jump compared to the previous survey, with 73% interested in cohabitation. Among Jewish respondents, there was a slight decline, and 39% responded positively.

On the question of whether Arabs and Jews agree to study together in high school, here too there was a sharp increase, with almost 68% of Arab respondents answering affirmatively – 2.5 times more than in the previous survey. Among Jews, there was an increase of one percentage point compared to the previous survey, with 47% supporting co-education.

Michal Sela, CEO of Givat Haviva for a Shared Society, said: "This survey also proves to what extent Israeli Arabs want to be part of general society, while Jewish society is divided on its desire to get closer to Israeli Arabs. It seems that most Israelis are interested in a bridge to a life of partnership, and are looking for the envelope to create the necessary connection."
