France and EU to support Ukraine "in the long term", Paris reminds China

The France and the European Union are determined to support Ukraine "in the long term" and "in all areas", Paris reaffirmed Tuesday to a Chinese envoy, sent by Beijing to Europe to discuss a political settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

The French Foreign Ministry, via its Director General of Political and Security Affairs Frédéric Mondoloni, stressed "Russia's full responsibility in the outbreak and continuation of the war," during a meeting with Chinese special envoy Li Hui in charge of the Ukrainian file, according to a statement from Paris.

According to this text, the France, while welcoming "the resumption of dialogue between China and Ukraine", recalled that Kiev "exercises its right of self-defense" and stressed that it and the EU were "determined to support (Ukraine) in the long term, in all fields".

Li Hui, a former Chinese ambassador to Moscow, has been touring Europe for a week to discuss the "political settlement" of the conflict in Ukraine.
