Le Figaro Nice
After a little more than two months of investigation, the police officers of the brigade of attack on property of Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes) arrested, Sunday, May 21, a foreigner suspected of having stolen a professional gas card from a motorist and having largely abused, to the tune of 4000 euros. Information from Nice Matin confirmed to Le Figaro Wednesday afternoon by a police source.
The facts date back to 14 March. That day, a man stopped to refuel at a gas station in Antibes. With his eyes fixed on the fuel dispenser, he did not see the individual approaching and plunging his arm into his car. In an instant, the latter grabs his gas card and flees. The victim realizes this after a few minutes and immediately files a complaint at the police station. An investigation is opened and the investigations are oriented around the famous map, the only clue until then. The police discover that it was used in a gas station not far from Antibes, in the neighboring town of Juan-les-Pins.

Selling gasoline at half price
In the regional daily, an agent says: "On the images, we saw this man manipulating the map in the middle of a slew of vehicles." In fact, the suspect had set up a very juicy little business of selling gasoline to motorists at half price via the stolen card. "He paid their full and was given the sum in cash," continues another policeman in Le Figaro. In total, about forty people would have benefited from the system, for an estimated damage of 3891 euros.
During his arrest on Sunday, at the Place du Général de Gaulle, in Antibes, the defendant showed no resistance. During his hearing in custody, he still tried to deny the theft of the gas card, claiming to have found it on the ground. In addition, he assured that only his friends, or even friends of friends, had profited from his small business. The police also confused him for other cases related to thefts in the commune. Indicted and presented in immediate appearance before the court of Grasse, Tuesday, this 36-year-old man, also under an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF), was sentenced to eight months in prison, says the prosecutor.
