The circumstances that led to the death of an eleven-year-old while kayaking on the Ammer are to be clarified. There are currently no investigations against individuals.
Rottenbuch – The Munich II public prosecutor's office has arranged for the cause of death and the exact circumstances of the kayak accident on the Ammer near Rottenbuch to be investigated. On Saturday, an eleven-year-old from the district of Rosenheim capsized near the Echelsbacher Bridge and died. How this could have happened is now to be clarified by means of a death investigation.
"This is the normal procedure when a person has died a non-natural death," says Matthias Enzler, deputy press spokesman for the Munich II public prosecutor's office, when asked by the local newspaper. As part of the investigation, an attempt is being made to trace the course of events. Witnesses are also being heard for this.
Investigations can take weeks, but even years
In addition, the Munich District Court has ordered the autopsy of the child. It will probably take about six to eight weeks before the written report is available, Enzler estimates. It will probably take even longer for the death investigation to be completed: "It can take years or just a few weeks."
At the moment, it is purely a matter of clarifying the circumstances. "A criminal investigation against specific persons has not yet been initiated," says Enzler. "At present, there is no initial suspicion of criminally relevant conduct." However, such a decision could "still result" from the findings of the death investigation.
The eleven-year-old had set off on the kayak tour on the Ammer in the course of a club outing with a group of 14 people from the Rosenheim area. There were five adults and another eight children and adolescents who had been led out of the gorge by rescuers after the accident.
