Jorge Javier Vázquez, on leave due to medical prescription

Jorge Javier Vázquez will be temporarily off as a Mediaset presenter by medical prescription, as announced by the communication group in a brief statement in which he wishes a "speedy recovery".

The star presenter of Telecinco for more than a decade had been missing for days from the programs in which he participates in the chain. On Thursday night, Carlos Sobera appeared in his place at the head of the Survivors gala, one of the formats that Vázquez is currently in charge of. The explanation he gave live is that his partner was indisposed.

Vázquez also does not appear for days in Sálvame, a program whose broadcasts will end in June after 14 years of uninterrupted presence on the Telecinco grid. Although the presenter renewed his long-term contract with the communication group in September 2022, just before the departure of Paolo Vasile as head of the company in Spain, in recent weeks several media have speculated that the new directive will terminate the contract of the communicator and dispense with his services this season. It would be another step to renew the image of the main Mediaset chain after the loss of audience leadership to Antena 3.

The presenter, 52, suffered a stroke in 2019 for which he underwent emergency surgery. A few months later he had to undergo surgery again that same year due to the narrowing of one of the stents that were placed then. In 2022 he suffered a new scare in his health when in Peru he had to be admitted to a hospital when he suffered altitude sickness during his summer vacation. To this is added the depression he suffered months after the stroke and of which he himself has spoken on some occasions.
