A new episode of "Bauer sucht Frau International" or would you prefer Davina and Shania Geiss? One format was clearly better received by the audience on Monday (22 May).
Cologne – Although the various RTL evening formats enjoy great popularity, the Cologne-based broadcaster is usually trumped by the public broadcasters in terms of ratings. On Monday (22 May), two RTL Group productions also had to compete in the ratings battle with "Bauer sucht Frau International" on RTL and the "Geissens" offshoot "Davina & Shania – We Love Monaco" on RTLZWEI – which one of the two clearly won.
Quota war between RTL and RTLZWEI: "Farmer seeks woman" destroys the Geissens
The two formats could hardly be more different. In "Bauer sucht Frau International", farmers from all over the world dream of great love, and in "Davina & Shania – We Love Monaco", the daughters of Robert (59) and Carmen Geiss (58) present their glamorous and dazzling lives. Turbulent emotional worlds or ostentatious luxury – the television audience was clearly more in the mood for one on Monday evening.
As can be seen from the DWDL number center, the ratings victory between the two programs was clearly achieved by "Bauer sucht Frau International". The dome show with presenter Inka Bause (54) reached 3.01 million viewers among the total audience and thus achieved a market share of 12.3 percent. However, RTL still had no chance against the "Tagesschau" on ARD (4.19 million viewers) as well as the crime thriller "Immerstill" (4.18 million viewers) and "SOKO Hamburg" (3.02 million viewers) on ZDF.
Which number of spectators set the record in Germany?
On 13 July 2014, ARD made television history: the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina (1-0 a.e.t.) was watched by an estimated 34.65 million people on their own television sets. Crazy: People who watched the game at public viewing or in bars, for example, were not included in this count. The actual number is therefore likely to be considerably higher.
For the youngest members of the Geissens dynasty, however, the number of viewers is likely to prove to be a bitter disappointment, because "Davina & Shania – We Love Monaco" is not represented at all in the DWDL ranking of the 25 most-watched formats.
Ratings duel on Monday evening: "Farmer seeks woman" beats ZDF and VOX among younger audiences
Although "Bauer sucht Frau International" once again had to bow to ARD and ZDF despite the victory over the Geissens among the overall audience – in the target group of 14- to 49-year-olds, the romantic show performed much better. Here, too, the "Tagesschau" got the laurels with 0.96 million viewers, but Inka Bause and her lonely farmers placed right behind with 0.67 million viewers.

RTL thus not only succeeded in defeating ZDF, but also over the popular Vox start-up show "Die Höhle der Löwen", in which 0.95 million television viewers tuned in.

It remains to be seen whether "Bauer sucht Frau International" will finally succeed in overtaking its public service competitors in the coming weeks. Just last week, however, "Bauer sucht Frau" was dismantled into individual parts by ZDF in a ratings duel. Sources used:dwdl.de
