Code name Föhrenpold: This is what Ebersberg wind turbine project is all about

2023-05-25T13:50:37.561Z

Highlights: A 250-metre-high wind turbine is to be built on the outskirts of Ebersberg. The city is "pushing" the project, the investors are (still) keeping a low profile. Turbines with a hub height of 160 or 166 meters, which corresponds to a total height of about 250 meters, are currently being discussed. The planned location is located between the rural districts of Pollmoos, Traxl and Englmeng. The wind turbine could start operating in 2025 - "if everyone participates"

An approximately 250-metre-high wind turbine is to be built on the outskirts of Ebersberg. The city is "pushing" the project, the investors are (still) keeping a low profile.

Ebersberg – In the wind power race for the next rotor locations in the district of Ebersberg, the district town is now positioning itself with a concrete project. If everything goes smoothly, an approximately 2025-metre-high wind turbine could generate electricity on a wooded hill between the districts of Pollmoos, Traxl and Englmeng as early as 250.

The initiators are seven local farmers and entrepreneurs. They presented their project at an information event in front of around 100 residents from the surrounding villages. They don't want to appear on the net with it. However, one of the participants gives some details anonymously. The estimated costs are therefore between seven and nine million euros.

The money should not only come from the initiators. The residents of the surrounding villages should also be able to participate within a certain financial range if they wish. "Those who live within sight," says the co-founder from Pollmoos.

Co-founder: The location is as good as fixed

The location has already been determined with a few meters of leeway. For the sake of a more straightforward structure, the decision was made against a cooperative as a form of business. Instead, a limited liability company was founded. Due to its location, it bears the name "Windenergie Föhrenpold". The builders of the wind turbine in Hamberg (Bruck) are also involved via a management company.

According to their own statements, the fact that the initiators are keeping such a low profile with their project is due to concerns about possible prevention efforts at the political and legal level. The wind has long since changed when it comes to wind power – politicians and the population are noticeably less critical of new projects than, for example, the construction of the Hamberg wind turbine, the first in the district, which was inaugurated in 2017. This has also been recognized by those interested in Ebersberg, who attentively approved the city council's resolutions on three areas suitable for wind energy, which unsurprisingly also include the forest near Pollmoos.

The wind turbine could start operating in 2025 - "if everyone participates"

The city and the investor families have been in intensive contact for some time. In the coming year, the plans are to take concrete shape, for example in terms of permits and land use plans. Turbines with a hub height of 160 or 166 meters, which corresponds to a total height of about 250 meters, are currently being discussed. Start of operations: 2025. "But only if everyone participates and the city continues to support us so well," says the project participant.

At the information event for the residents mentioned at the beginning, there had been inquiries, but it was not apparent that the project would meet with complete rejection from anyone. According to reports, there are some concerns in Englmeng, which is located north of the site and is therefore most likely to be expected to cast shadows.

Mayor Proske: "This is in the city's highest interest"

There is a tailwind for the project from Ebersberg: "This is in the highest interest of the city," says Mayor Ulrich Proske of the EZ on the phone. Politicians will support Föhrenpold GmbH in the approval process to the best of their ability.

Whether the Pollmoos wind turbine will be the second in the Ebersberg district after Hamberg also depends on how the "competition" performs; for example, the two projects between Bruck and Moosach and near Grafing, the former in the approval stage, the latter in the site search stage. Or the five-rotor project in the Ebersberg Forest, which is back in the running with a new investor.
