French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna came to Rome on Thursday to officially renew the ties between the two countries with a working lunch with her Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani. The matter was urgent, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to go to Paris on June 7 to inaugurate the Capodimonte exhibition at the Louvre.
However, she will not have made an official apology from the France, as Antonio Tajani had requested on a whim. Because, she said before her visit, "we are not in a diplomatic crisis with Italy." And "if there was indeed a moment of oscillation, of astonishment at the statements that were made, we have since explained ourselves". In fact, even though Antonio Tajani had cancelled his trip to France the day after the incident, the two ministers continued to talk to each other, and saw each other many times.
