LE FIGARO. - The president of the Medef, Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, on Tuesday castigated the "Pavlovian solution of the French enarchy: a problem, a tax". Is the use of taxation rooted in the French tradition?
Gilbert CETTE. - Yes, it's a bad reflex "genetically" French. Something to fund? A tax. This is usual and cultural in France. And this leads us to be the advanced country, with Denmark, with the heaviest taxation, including in terms of progressivity. On the contrary, saving on spending to finance others, for example for the climate transition, is a good reflex for a country like ours, which is the champion of public spending, and co-champion in terms of public levies.
